BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - The driver of a tour bus that crashed on a southern Kentucky interstate died today. The driver's death brings the toll to two in the crash that injured more than 60 family members traveling home to Alabama from a reunion.
Vanderbilt University Hospital spokesman Jerry Jones says 63-year-old Abraham Parker of Birmingham, Alabama died at the hospital.
A passenger, 71-year-old Carrie Walton, of Greene County, Alabama, died at the scene yesterday when she was ejected from the bus.
According to Kentucky State Police, a preliminary investigation found that Parker had apparently dozed off, causing the bus to run off Interstate 65 and strike an overpass support about 75 miles north of Nashville.
A child remained in critical condition at Vanderbilt, and 14 other people remained hospitalized in Nashville and in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Most members of an extended Alabama family injured in a tour bus wreck early yesterday have returned home, but 15 remain hospitalized. The bus driver and an eight-year-old boy are in critical condition at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. State police say a preliminary probe into the I-65 crash northeast of Bowling Green indicates the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
State police say this morning there has been no new evidence to suggest that anything other than the driver falling asleep at the wheel caused the I-65 bus crash. The 63-year-old driver, Abraham Parker of Birmingham, Alabama, is among those in critical condition.

The above facts point out the dangers of traveling on some of the Interstates in Kentucky. As a person who travels these Interstates each week I can understand that it could be the site of such a tragic accident.
In this case, it has been alleged that the Driver fell asleep. Driver fatigue is one of the leading causes of Kentucky Bus Accidents and Bus Accidents around the country. The facts in this case are very similar to the March Bus Crash of the Ohio Baseball team down in Atlanta, Georgia. In that case a sleepy driver mistaked an off ramp for an HOV lane and then the bus plunged some 10-15 feet.
It is clear that those involved in this Bus Crash near Bowling Green Kentucky have a Kentucky Accident Claim for Medical Bills, Lost Wages and Pain and Suffering. The claim would be against the Driver and the Company that owns the bus. In addition, the one deceased passenger has a Kentucky Wrongful Death Claim against both parties. In this case it can take weeks, months or even years to discover exactly what happened.
The Kentucky State Police will have to open a Death Case on the deceased. Sometimes the result of these investigations can stay open for months.
At Daryl T Dixon Law, we do these type of investigations everyday for our clients as an alternative to the State Police. As a Kentucky Car Wreck Lawyer and a Kentucky Bus Crash Lawyer, many times I must uncover unknown facts that the State Police do not uncover in their investigation.
