California Husband and Wife Die In Bullitt County Kentucky Plane Crash
Two Now Dead From Bullitt County Kentucky Plane Crash
BROOKS, Ky. (AP) -- A passenger in a single-engine plane that crashed south of Louisville died early Monday, a coroner said.
Jeanette Watts, 76, died Monday at 4 a.m. EDT at University of Louisville hospital, Bullitt County Coroner Tommy Kappel said. She was in the front passenger seat of the plane, which went down around 4 p.m. Sunday in a cornfield about 15 miles south of Louisville, Kappel said.
Watts died of multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the plane crash, said Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jack Arnold.
Her husband, Leonard Duane Watts, 57, of El Dorado Hills, Calif., was killed in the crash, Kappel said.
Two other people were hospitalized after the crash, Kappel said. Their names and conditions were not immediately available Monday.
Thomas Jean, owner of nearby Blue Lick Airport, said he thought there was a chance the aircraft was "probably heading" there. Jean, who said he was a member of an emergency response team that was at the scene, said the airplane had "plenty of gas and the engine was running."
Todd Gunther, an investigator in charge with the National Transportation Safety Board, said Sunday that details surrounding the crash were still uncertain. Gunther did not immediately return calls seeking comment Monday.
The plan was a Mooney, four-seat low wing aircraft, Gunther said. Officials had received conflicting reports of exactly how many people were on board, Gunther said.
